The thinking behind RE:DEFINE

For RE:DEFINE all contributing artists were asked to consider ways to incorporate the concept either of defining or redefining in their work.

This could relate to themselves, to another individual/subject, or simply as an esoteric idea.

The thematic was developed as a conceptual extension of the amazing work done by the Staying Alive Foundation grantees, who are self-made enterprises making a real difference - both defining and redefining their own lives, their communities and the perceptions of the HIV/AIDS virus around the world. However, naturally we asked each artist to interpret this theme in their own way.

The charity

100% of funds raised through sales of the 30 pieces of work will be donated to the Staying Alive Foundation, a remarkable grassroots HIV and AIDS charity with young people at its heart. Read more about the Foundation and its work here.

The space

The exhibition and auction of the works will take place at the stunning new Goss-Michael Foundation facility, which offers 12,000 ft. of pristine architect-designed whitewall gallery space in a prime central-Dallas location.

Founded in June 2007 by recording artist George Michael and Kenny Goss, the Goss-Michael Foundation exists in order to provide a forum for British contemporary art and has shown artists including Michael Craig-Martin, Tracey Emin, Angus Fairhurst, Damien Hirst, Gary Hume, Jim Lambie, Sarah Lucas, Adam McEwen, Jonathan Monk, Tim Noble & Sue Webster, Richard Patterson, Marc Quinn, Eva Rothschild and Gilbert & George.

Curation

The show is curated by The Future Tense.

The Future Tense acts as a springboard for a cutting edge roster of emerging contemporary artists, working closely with them to help develop profiles and careers as individual as they are.

Free from the fiscal and creative constraints of a fixed gallery space, The Future Tense exists in the moment, creating unique event concepts and genre-defining projects, curating bespoke spaces and working with affiliate galleries to service a broad spectrum of private and institutional collectors.
